Definitions
In plain terms
For shares it may count shares traded; for other instruments it may use contracts, units, lots, or notional, so the unit matters.
Technical
Volume aggregation requires eligibility, correction and cancellation handling, deduplication, unit, instrument identity, interval boundaries, and adjustment basis.
Scope
Volume definitions are feed- and asset-specific and should not be compared without checking units and coverage.
Examples
- A governed dataset records trading volume explicitly and preserves the source context needed to interpret it.
Common misconceptions
- Trading Volume does not have one universal meaning or policy without its declared source, scope, and data contract.
