Reversing entry

A reversing entry is a new journal that offsets the selected original entry's accounting effect.

Also known asreversal journal

Definitions

In plain terms

The original remains in history and the reversal records the offset, its date and its link to that original.

Technical

D30 swaps debit and credit sides with positive amounts and uses an atomic correction group when a replacement must accompany the reversal.

Scope

A reversal differs from deleting history, a cash refund and a repeated request.

Examples

  • A synthetic incorrect fee remains recorded alongside its opposite-side reversal and corrected replacement.

Common misconceptions

  • Retrying the same correction must not create another independent reversal.
