Definitions
In plain terms
Revision lineage preserves the history of a value instead of silently replacing it, allowing the system to reconstruct what was known at different times.
Technical
A valid lineage begins with revision zero, advances contiguously, identifies one predecessor per correction, and resolves to one unambiguous head at a causal knowledge cutoff.
Scope
The contiguous, unbranched rule is the pilot's strict data contract; external feeds may expose different revision mechanisms that require explicit adapters.
Examples
- Revision 2 points to revision 1, which points to revision 0, and the cutoff selects the latest available member of that chain.
Common misconceptions
- The largest revision number is not automatically valid when predecessor records are missing or conflicting.
