Opposing Trough Retracement

Opposing Trough Retracement is the decline from the comparable high level to the intervening trough expressed as a fraction.

Definitions

In plain terms

The trough must be far enough below the highs to count as a distinct test.

Technical

retracement = (mean_test_level - trough)/mean_test_level and it must be >= 0.05 for a top.

Scope

A shallow dip can be rejected even when two highs look close on a chart.

Formula

retracement=(mean_test_level-trough)/mean_test_level
LaTeX: r=\frac{\bar p-v}{\bar p}

Output unit: fraction

Examples

  • A reviewer computes Opposing Trough Retracement on a deterministic close fixture and checks pivot timing, threshold equality, neckline behavior, and rejection diagnostics before publication.

Common misconceptions

  • A shallow dip can be rejected even when two highs look close on a chart.
