Dividend

A dividend is a distribution of value by an issuer to eligible holders of a security.

Definitions

In plain terms

Dividends may be cash, additional shares, or other property, and their effect depends on event terms and the holder's eligibility.

Technical

A dividend record requires security identity, type, amount or ratio, currency, declaration, ex, record and payment dates, source, status, and correction history.

Scope

Not every distribution is ordinary income, and tax or index treatment is context-specific.
