FTB-C000711 / Financial concept

Interest accrual

Interest accrual measures interest earned or incurred over an interval under an agreed balance and rate convention.

Also known asaccrued interest

Definitions

In plain terms

Interest can accumulate before a payment or capitalization updates the posted account balance.

Technical

D30 retains exact fractional interest until a declared posting/rounding boundary using eligible balances, rate intervals and a selected day-count basis.

Scope

Accrual measures interest. Capitalization changes the interest-bearing pool and can enable compounding; customer crediting or posting has its own declared boundary.

Examples

  • A synthetic daily calculation can earn a fraction of one cent without immediately posting a cent.

Common misconceptions

  • Rounding every daily fraction is not equivalent to rounding once at the selected boundary.
