Definitions
In plain terms
Pre-market, core trading, auctions, and after-hours periods can follow different rules, so a dataset should name the session it includes.
Technical
A session definition combines venue, product, local time zone, open and close boundaries, auctions, breaks, holiday overrides, and rule-version provenance.
Scope
There is no single global regular session, and scheduled hours do not prove that every instrument traded.
Examples
- A governed dataset records trading session explicitly instead of inferring it from an ambiguous field.
Common misconceptions
- Trading Session does not have one universal meaning without its stated market, source, and time context.
