Marginal tiered pricing

Marginal tiered pricing applies each band's rate only to the quantity within that band.

Also known asgraduated pricing

Definitions

In plain terms

Crossing a threshold changes the price of the additional portion, rather than repricing every earlier unit.

Technical

D30 slices the declared charge base across ordered bands, computes exact band charges and rounds at the specified final boundary.

Scope

Volume pricing applies a selected rate to the whole quantity and is a different policy.

Examples

  • A synthetic amount spanning two bands produces two separately visible fee contributions.

Common misconceptions

  • Selecting the last crossed band's rate for the entire base is not marginal pricing.
