A listing is the effective-dated relationship that makes a security available under specified terms on a trading venue.

Also known asexchange listinglisted line

Definitions

In plain terms

The same security can have different venue relationships or local trading lines. A listing connects the instrument to the venue, symbol, currency, and active dates.

Technical

A listing record should preserve security identity, venue or segment, display symbol, trading currency, status, and valid-time intervals rather than using ticker alone as a key.

Scope

Listing does not guarantee continuous liquidity, current eligibility, or fungibility with every other line.

Examples

  • A security listed in two markets can have two symbols and two trading currencies.

Common misconceptions

  • A listing is not the issuer and is not necessarily a distinct share class.
